Benissa is a quiet delightful small town. It has a well preserved old quarter and a beautiful Church known as the Cathedral of the Marina Alta. Most days the tourist office organize free guided walking tours. Naturally, Benissa is a beautiful coastal town. Its beaches and bays with their cristal clear waters are calm, peaceful : La Fustera, Cala Pinets, Cala La Llobella, Cala Abogat, Cala Baladrar, Cap Blanc. Benissa combined with the beauty of its’ beaches, coves and countryside create a beautiful scene, further enhanced by cliffs and jagged rocks.
The local area offers a rich variety of sports and leisure activities, there is a riding school, and a nine golf course in San Jaime. The little harbour of Les Bassetes offers a lot of water sports and diving courses.
Benissa has broad variety of Festivals, beginning in January with the traditional Fira i Porrat de Sant Antoni. In April, there is the most important festival in honour of Purissima Xiqueta. Next are the festivals of “Moros and Christianos ” in june. And in the summer, Benissa is itself a festival, for every week-end in the various rural divisions there are popular fiestas, including dinners outside with typic products, dances, and strings of firecrackers.
The natural environment of Benissa makes it perfect for day trips in the midst of nature. The town is surrounded by the mountains of Solana, Olta and Malla Verda and by the Bernia mountain range, which is considered an ideal setting for hill-walking.
The surrounding countryside is covered with flourishing groves of olive and almond trees and the town has 40km of coastline full of natural attractions such as the tranquil coves surrounded by cliffs and pine groves.
The cuisine of Valencia is here enriched with local dishes that are spicy, and flavourful, with products from the sea and from the country.
